Where are Mobility Scooters manufactured?
All mobility scooters are designed in the USA but are manufactured in Asia (China and Taiwan) and then shipped to the USA some are shipped fully assembled and others are assembled in the USA for extra quality control. What separates 1800wheelchair’s mobility scooters from other brands is that we are vertically integrated, meaning for some of the mobility scooters we oversee the manufacturing in Asia, we ship them to the USA and quality control it in the USA and then ship it to you, the customer. By overseeing the entire lifecycle of the products we give you a better quality product and if you ever have any issues with the scooter, we can fix or rep[lace it quickly. Also, because there are no middle salespeople our scooters are priced lower than most.
Will Medicare Pay for Mobility Scooters?
Medicare will pay for 80% of a wheelchair’s cost if you meet Medicare’s “medical necessity” regulations.
You will have to pay the other 20% after you pay your Part B Medicare deductible for the year. It is not common for Medicare to approve a mobility scooter because most people do not meet Medicare’s requirements:
Some of the requirements that Medicare needs for approval are
- A written order from a DR saying that you have a medical condition that causes difficulty in moving around your home.
- You have a health condition that causes significant difficulty moving in and around your home or apartment
- You are restricted, without the use of a mobility scooter (even with a cane, walker, or rollator), to do daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, getting in and out of bed or a chair.
- You can safely operate a mobility scooter or have someone always around to help you with your scooter
- Both your Dr, Who is treating you for your medical condition, and your mobility scooter supplier are both enrolled in Medicare.
- The Electric Mobility Scooter will move freely in your home, including turning and fitting through all the doorways.
If you are approved a scooter will be assigned to you, you will not have a choice which mobility scooter you receive. Call 1800MEDICARE to see if you are eligible for Medicare to reimburse your scooter Note; at 1800wheelchair. We do not accept Medicare or any Insurance as payment but you get to choose the scooter that works best for you.
What is the difference between an Electric Wheelchair and an Electric Mobility Scooter?
An electric wheelchair is controlled by a joystick on the right or left armrest, and a scooter is controlled by bicycle-style handlebars.
An electric wheelchair are for people with limited mobility and trunk support and a mobility scooter is for someone who may get tired after a long walk and has stronger tunk support
Today’s electric scooters are popular because they come in fun designs and do not have a medical look and feel.
What should I look for when buying an Electric Mobility Scooter?
- Weight capacity - Most mobility scooters will carry a weight up to 250- 300 lbs. If you weigh over 250 lbs you will need a high weight capacity - heavy duty mobility scooter which has a wider seat and a higher weight capacity.
- Where will you be using your scooter: indoors, outdoors, or both - Where will you be using the mobility scooter?
Indoors - Measure the width of the narrowest doorway that the scooter needs to go through, also measure the turning radius of the narrowest space you may need to turn the scooter around while driving at home. The standard doorway in the USA is 36” wide.
Outdoors - If you will be riding your electric wheelchair outdoors and you will be taking it on grass or the sidewalk you will want larger wheels to go over obstacles (we recommend tires that are 8” or larger)
- Will you be traveling with your scooter in a car, bus, or airplane?
Car: If you will be lifting your mobility scooter in a car we recommend you look at our portable motorized wheelchairs. Also, see our super light EzFold Super Lightweight 28 lbs. Mobility Scooter It's the lightest mobility scooter on the planet! It folds into one piece and has a total weight of 38 lbs. Making it super light to lift into a car or bus.

Airlines do allow sealed lead-acid batteries and Lithium batteries see our airline guide here. We recommend you call your specific airline before traveling. See some of our airline approved mobility scooters here
